Snippets – Penalties under the Australian Consumer Law

Penalties under the Australian Consumer Law have increased substantially.

From 1 September 2018, financial penalties for unconscionable conduct, unfair practices and some aspects of safety of consumer goods and services have increased to up to $10,000,000 for companies. For non-companies, the penalties have increased to up to $500,000. Penalties for breach of warranty are up to $50,000 for companies and $10,000 for non-companies.
