The Australian Business Registrar reminds people that from 1 November 2018 business names that are registered solely with state business name registers or trading names that are not registered will no longer be displayed in the Australian Business Register current details information. Any names which are held on the Australian Business Register will still be recorded as historical names.
This is a reminder to businesses to check that their trading names are properly registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) as business names where required.
If you trade under any name that is not your legal name (company names are the legal name of the company entity) then you are required to register that name as a business name with ASIC. Previously, such names were registered with state bodies but ASIC has had responsibility for the register of business names since 2012.
I am happy to assist with any query you may have about your trading name or registration of business names.
